Minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction

  • Adenocarcinoma of the esophagogastric junction (AEG) has relatively unique clinicopathological cha racteristics. With the rapid development of minimally invasive surgery, some early AEG can be cured by laparoscopic or endoscopic resection. Minimally invasive surgery of AEG should fo llow the basic principles of radical surgery, depending on accurate preoperative tumor stage and restricting to the indications. In the future, the training of minimally invasive surgery should be strengthened, and the standards of professional techniques should be formulated. Moreover, the safety and efficacy of minimally invasive surgery for the treatment of AEG must be demonstrated by multicenter randomized controlled trials.
