Digital‑intelligent integration empowers development of research-oriented gastrointestinal oncology center

Patients with gastrointestinal malignancies represent a large population and often experience a long treatment trajectory, a high risk of recurrence, and multiple challenges such as malnutrition, sarcopenia, physical function decline, and impaired quality of life. The traditional surgery-centered model, which places greater emphasis on in‑hospital treatment than on post-disch-arge management, is no longer sufficient to meet the need for long‑term patient benefit. Guided by the concept of digital‑intelligent integration, the Gastrointestinal Tumor Center of The First Affiliated Hospital of Wenzhou Medical University has explored a development pathway for a gastrointestinal oncology center. Focusing on four core areas‒precision surgery, whole‑course nutritional rehabilita⁃tion, stratified multidisciplinary treatment (MDT), and clinical research translation-the center has established a comprehensive management system covering the preoperative, intraoperative, postopera⁃tive, and out‑of‑hospital follow‑up stages. In precision surgery, the center has promoted the develop⁃ment of precise surgery through the application of domestic robotic systems and minimally invasive function‑preserving surgery. In nutritional rehabilitation, a structured management pathway has been developed around the process of "screening, assessment, diagnosis, treatment, and follow‑up".Stratified MDT has improved comprehensive decision‑making for complex cases and strengthened the capacity for regionally standardized diagnosis and treatment. Supported by disease‑specific databases and clinical research platforms, the center has further promoted the transformation of clinical data into research evidence and translational tools. It with the aims to provide a reference for the development of research‑oriented gastrointestinal oncology center in the context of digital-inte-lligent integration.
