Expert consensus on perioperative drainage tube management for pancreaticoduodenectomy (2026 edition)

Perioperative drainage tube management for pancreaticoduodenectomy (PD) is a critical component in preventing postoperative complications and improving patient outcomes. Recent advances have been made both domestically and internationally regarding indications for drainage, management strategies, and continuity of care beyond hospitalization. Through identifica-tion of key clinical issues, systematic literature review and evaluation, and Delphi expert consulta-tions, the Hepatobiliary Tumor Integrated Nursing Committee of Chinese Anti‑Cancer Association, Hepatobiliary Pancreatic Surgery Branch of Chongqing Medical Association, and Hepatobiliary Surgery Nursing Professional Committee of Chongqing Nursing Society have convened experts from relevant fields to develop the Expert consensus on perioperative drainage tube management for pancreatico-duodenectomy (2026 edition), focusing on four core modules including preoperative biliary drainage, intra-operative placement of drainage tubes, postoperative monitoring and maintenance of drainage tubes, and outpatient drainage tube management. This consensus aims to establish a comprehensive and standardized perioperative drainage tube management system, provide scientific and practical guidance for healthcare professionals to ensure safe and standardized practices during PD, improve clinical care quality, reduce postoperative complication rates, and improve patient recovery outcomes.
