Efficacy and safety of prophylactic mesh placement for preventing parastomal hernia after enterostomy: a Meta-analysis

Abstract
Parastomal hernia is a long-term complication after enterostomy, with a high incidence rate and unsatisfactory outcomes of surgical repair. Therefore, the prevention of parastomal hernia has become a clinical focus. The authors systematically reviewed 8 relevant studies involving 902 patients. Meta-analysis showed that prophylactic mesh placement could effectively reduce the incidence of parastomal hernia, with favorable safety and no additional risk of complications. It can be selectively applied in appropriate patients, while its long-term efficacy remains to be validated by further large-scale studies.
