Research progress on sarcopenia in the field of liver transplantation

  • Sarcopenia, characterized by decreased muscle mass, impaired muscle strength, and physical function deficits, has emerged as a new challenge in the field of liver transplantation. Liver transplant recipients with liver cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma frequently have sarcopenia, which is easily overlooked in clinical practice, but directly affects the quality of life and survival of the recipients after transplantation. The authors review the evaluation, diagnosis, prognostic impact, and intervention treatment of sarcopenia in liver transplantation, aiming to enhance the diagnostic and treatment capabilities of sarcopenia in clinical practice and ultimately improve clinical efficacy.
