Objective The Expert Consensus on Case Management of Postoperative Clini-cal Pathways of Bariatric and Metabolic Surgery (2025 Edition) (hereinafter referred to as the Consensus) aims to standardize postoperative case management of bariatric clients and provide reference for postoperative clinical nursing work, thereby promoting the construction and development of baria-tric and metabolic surgery.
Methods The Consensus committee was formed by experts specialized in case management, nursing, nutrition and medical treatment of bariatric and metabolic surgery from 54 hospitals nationally. The drafted consensus was formulated based on massive literature review and clinical experience conclusion. The first round of expert discussion was completed by inviting 5 experts (Deputy Leader of the Obesity Metabolic Surgery Comprehensive Management and Nursing Support Group) with more than 8‑year experience in case management of bariatric and metabolic surgery to comment on the drafted consensus. Afterwards, the second round of expert discussion was launched by collecting comments from 79 experts via a method of paper letter review.
Results The Consensus includes contents of monitoring vital signs and related indicators, evaluating abdominal signs and wounds, the assessment and nursing care of drainage tube, pain, postoperative nausea and vomiting, evaluating of excretion, in‑hospital diet instruction and exercise instruction, and outpatient education. On this basis, a clinical pathway template document was generated.
Conclusions The Consensus can serve as a reference for postoperative pathways of case management of bariatric and metabolic surgery. Regular updating will be conducted based on the accumulation of clinical experiences and development of evidence practice to better serve the practice.
