The opportunity and challenge of 5G in colorectal surgery

  • With the rapid development of colorectal surgery in recent years, the outcomes of colorectal cancer patients have been significantly improved. However, the regional disparity of medical development still exists. As an advanced and emerging network technology, the fifth generation wireless systems (5G) is widely known for high bandwidth, high-throughput connection, which is conducive to the development of telemedicine. Based on the current status of colorectal surgery, the authors discuss the opportunity and challenge of 5G in colorectal surgery. By using the unique advantages of network technology, it is helpful for solving the existing problems, innovating diagnosis and treatment methods, and further promoting the development of colorectal surgery.
