Practice and perspective on comprehensive nutrition management for gastrointestinal sur-gery patients

Abstract: Malnutrition is highly prevalent among gastrointestinal surgery patients and can occur at various stages, including preoperatively, postoperatively, and after discharge, significantly impacting clinical outcomes. With the dissemination and promotion of the concept and technology of comprehensive nutrition management, gastrointestinal surgery patients will undergo comprehen-sive and dynamic nutritional screening and assessment throughout the entire course of disease diagnosis and treatment, both during hospitalization and after discharge. Personalized nutrition therapy is provided to patients with different forms of malnutrition, along with intelligent nutrition management, to conduct scientific and standardized nutritional interventions. This approach aims to improve patients' nutritional status and physical function, enhance their tolerance for surgery, accelerate postoperative recovery, and ultimately improve prognosis. To further advance the applica-tion of comprehensive nutrition management in gastrointestinal surgery, the author summarizes the latest research globally and integrates the practical experience of the author and team to explore the implementation process and strategies of comprehensive nutrition management for gastrointestinal surgery patients, with the goal of promoting its continued development.
