Abstract: The rapid development of bariatric and metabolic surgery in China in the past 20 years is due to the economic development and needs of lifestyle changes, as well as the unremit-ting exploration of surgeons. Although bariatric and metabolic surgery is facing good development opportunities, its specialized development is far from enough, non‑standard surgery still exists in clinical work, specialist training and standardization are in the initial stage, and follow‑up is also a serious challenge for bariatric and metabolic surgery. The authors believe that on the basis of solid progress in normalization and standardization, bariatric and metabolic surgery will welcome a bright future.
