Abstract:
The esophagogastric junction (EGJ) is defined as the area within 2 cm from the upper and lower parts of the esophagogastric junction. The tumor with its center located in EGJ is called EGJ carcinoma regardless of its histological type. There is no standard operation method and comprehensive treatment guideline for EGJ carcinoma. Based on the literatures, the author introduces the current situation and achievements of epidemiology, diagnosis, lymph node dissection, digestive tract reconstruction, endoscopic treatment and perioperative treatment of EGJ carcinoma in Japan, in order to provide theoretical basis and experience for surgical colleagues.
